This program places volunteers in early childhood centers across rural and semi-urban communities in Ghana. Volunteers help nurture children aged 2–6 through play-based learning, creative arts, storytelling, hygiene routines, and early literacy. The project combines education, health, and care — ensuring that children grow up safe, confident, and ready to learn.
Nurturing Young Minds. Building Brighter Futures.
The early years of life shape everything that follows — learning, confidence, and well-being. Yet, many children in Ghana’s underserved communities begin their education without access to qualified caregivers, stimulating environments, or basic learning materials.
VolunTour Africa’s Early Childhood Support & Caregiving Project gives you the opportunity to make a lasting difference. Volunteers work directly in preschools, day-care centers, and community learning spaces to support teachers and caregivers in providing children with the love, attention, and foundation they deserves.
Your service contributes to measurable change:
👶🏽 Improves early literacy and school readiness for children aged 2–6.
🎨 Supports teachers and caregivers with new methods and teaching resources.
🍎 Promotes healthy nutrition and hygiene habits among young children.
👩🏾🏫 Builds the confidence of local caregivers through skills sharing and mentorship.
🌍 Advances SDG 4 – Quality Education, SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being, and SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities.
Your care ignites curiosity, hope, and possibility in a child’s world — creating ripples that strengthen families and communities for generations.
Volunteers stay with vetted host families or in shared volunteer guesthouses. Homes have basic but comfortable amenities, including electricity and running water (in most areas). Rooms are typically shared with 1–3 other volunteers.
Two meals per day (breakfast and dinner) are provided by host families or the volunteer house. Meals are homemade and typically include rice, plantains, stews, and local Ghanaian dishes. Dietary restrictions can be accommodated with notice.
